A lighthouse symbolizes hope, security, and guidance from a stable and reliable source. For a sailor, certainly, it is more than a symbol--it is the assurance that the shore is within reach and it its light is trusted, the sailor can reach land safely.
Such is this small lighthouse on the shore of Lake Dora in Florida. While only 35 feet tall it has been doing its job since 1988, guiding boaters safely to the port on the eastern shore of this 4400-acre lake. Some call it a "faux lighthouse" because it is so small, but in my opinion, a lighthouse is a lighthouse regardless if size. If it has lantern and it guides sailors to shore, it is a lighthouse.
This original watercolor uses cadmium red for its two bold stripes and ultramarine blue and undersea green as the other two main colors.
