This "River of Life" original was commissioned by the owners to grace a focal-point wall in their living room. The owner requested I use colors that coordinated and complemented their decor and color scheme, and while we agreed something very large was needed for that wall above the couch, they did not want so much bright color and dynamism that he painted would distract. We agreed on subtle colors with mostly mid-range tonal values to communicate a feeling of peace. We even used some of the exact same paint the walls are painted with to provide a base that perfectly matches their decor.
The painting is a narrative, as many of my works are. This one brings together 5 main cities that are significant to this family's life. Thus, it is a a river of life that flows from one to the other and ends in the city where they currently reside.
